Support for our schools
As a teacher for more than 20 years, I know our schools. No matter where we live or how much money we have, we all want our kids to have access to a quality education that gives them what they need to succeed in the classroom and in life.
I have worked to inspire more people to choose the teaching profession, and to support them as they do the work to become qualified.
As our State Senator, I have
- Supported more than $2 billion in school funding increases so we can lower class sizes and get more counselors in our schools — our young people need and deserve more adults in their lives to serve as mentors
- Passed the North Star Promise Act that is providing free in-state tuition to more than 53,000 Minnesotans
- Fought to support and improve Minnesota’s State Grant Program to help students afford college
- Passed new incentives to address Minnesota’s teacher shortage
- Passed and then strengthened the READ Act, new phonics-based curriculum to improve literacy instruction in our schools
- Supported stipends for student teachers to remove one financial barrier for those hoping to become teachers
- Authored the Hunger-Free Campus Act, because no one should have to choose between buying books and buying food
- Passed Universal Free School Meals for Minnesota kids, ensuring all kids have access to nutritious food at school
By securing a quality education for all Minnesotans, we can build a strong future for generations to come.
