Aric’s bio

The son of a Vietnam veteran, Aric Putnam was born at Andrews Air Force Base. He earned a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University, a Master’s degree from the University of Maine, and a PhD from the University of Minnesota. He has been a teacher for more than 25 years, working with students of all ages. Since 2003, he’s been researching and teaching college students about the history of social movements, U.S. Democracy, and the skills of citizenship at Saint John’s University and the College of St. Benedict. His wife, Laurie, is the Superintendent of District 742 school district, and they have two children, Eliza and Phineas. Aric has been a youth soccer coach and a volunteer in the St. Cloud area schools, and he volunteers in the community and serves on the boards of four local nonprofits that attend to community needs for education, cultural dialogue, and mental health. As State Senator for District 14, he prioritizes bringing people together to find solutions to the problems our community faces.
