Championing higher education
As a professor at CSB/SJU for more than 20 years and the Vice Chair of the Higher Education committee in the Senate, I know our colleges – and more importantly, our college students. Our students deserve access to a quality education that sets them up to succeed not just in the classroom, but in life.
As our State Senator, I have
- Expanded the Husky Food Pantry at SCSU through funding the Hunger-Free Campus Act, because no one should have to choose between buying books and buying food
- Established affirmative consent standards in campus sexual assault policies
- Passed the North Star Promise Act that is providing free in-state tuition to more than 53,000 Minnesotans
- Fought to support and improve Minnesota’s State Grant Program to help students afford college
- Secured $12.8 million in funding for the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center so it could replace its original cooling system from 1989 and re-open this fall
- Worked with CentraCare and our House members to secure state funding to open a St. Cloud campus for the University of Minnesota Medical School – the school’s first expansion anywhere in more than 50 years
- Supported programs that help veterans transition from the military to education and promising careers
