An economy that works

So many of us are suffering with rising prices and a cost of living that just seems to keep getting higher. A lot of these challenges result from forces beyond our control — but even though we didn’t cause the problem, we can try to make it hurt less and keep more money in the pockets of families, seniors, and small businesses.

As our State Senator, I have

  • Championed Universal Free School Meals for Minnesota kids, saving the average family $2,000/year and ensuring all kids have access to nutritious food
  • Helped craft the largest tax cut in state history — $3 billion in savings for middle- and lower-income Minnesota families and seniors in 2023
  • Passed the nation-leading Minnesota Child Tax Credit that is saving families up to $1,750 per kid and reducing childhood poverty in Minnesota
  • Authored a bill to prohibit price gouging, and passed other consumer transparency bills to eliminate hidden junk fees, stop deceptive ticket pricing, and require click-to-cancel for automatic subscription renewals
  • Authored bills to encourage more people to work in childcare, and backed legislation to better support workers in this critical industry
  • Supported legislation to increase wages for long-term care workers and Personal Care Assistants
  • Authored the bill and advocated for the frontline worker bonus pay that put more money in the pockets of those who worked so hard during the pandemic
  • Supported bills that stabilize our health care costs, lower prescription drug prices, and expand medical assistance for moms

When we help those who struggle, when we support people who are trying to get by and get better, we all benefit.
