Public Safety
Safe, thriving neighborhoods
Everyone deserves to feel safe at home and in their community. My grandfather was a police officer, my uncle was a sheriff’s deputy, and three of my cousins are cops today.
I understand the challenges our police face, and I work to increase public safety in a way that protects everyone — collaborating with communities and with our police, and improving training for officers so families are safe.
As our State Senator, I have
- Authored five bills supporting the recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers, to address the workforce shortage so we can have the safety we deserve
- Secured and passed $300 million in direct Public Safety Aid to every city, county, and Tribal government in Minnesota
- Fought to support the mental health of officers and to focus on de-escalation training
- Worked to increase transparency and accountability with the community
- Passed $24 million for statewide EMS support and a pilot program focused on solving Greater Minnesota’s EMS crisis
- Authored a Hometown Heroes assistance program for firefighters
- Hosted a series of community conversations about public safety, including local law enforcement, city officials, and statewide commissioners
We need to inspire people to accept the challenge of this kind of public service, and support them when they do.
