Three new laws took effect this August. Korean Conflict and Vietnam War veterans who left high school to serve can now receive an honorary diploma, and families can request one on behalf of a veteran who has died. National Guard members called into state active service — wildfires, floods — got their first base pay increase in nearly thirty years. And starting January 2027, honorably discharged Guard and reserve members and their families will be eligible for burial in Minnesota’s state veterans cemeteries.

These veterans didn’t get to finish school because their country asked something bigger of them. The least we can do is finish that chapter for them.
